assignment one

Artist Statement:
With an exponential increase in technological developments over the past decade, it's not farfetched to anticipate the rise of artificial intelligence and its impact on the world as we know it. Science is at a point where robotics are being developed in humanistic ways, from their basic aesthetics, to the duties they’ve been delegated and the roles that they possess. Although robotics are still in their early stages, fifty years can provide an immense period of growth for such technology; take the computer for example, and consider its capabilities and stature from just a few decades ago to our present day. Just imagine this very behavior in our current-day robotic prototypes.
The illustration above depicts Earth in the year 2064. Phenomenon of our present day, such as global warming, have swept the planet and have left the environment unlivable for mankind. Humans are kept within a purified atmosphere, where as a community, they were to develop a resolution for their current environment through means of virtual reality. Upon finding a solution in their virtual environment, the same community developed a series of robots to execute their plan in reality, as an attempt to restore Earth. These robots carried out their most basic functions, but began to recognize the lack of authority humankind had over them outside of the purified facility and retaliated against their authority—achieving supremacy over mankind. This artificial intelligence has continued to develop Earth for the betterment of their newly developed society, whereas the humans remain locked up within a research facility, being examined like mice as they continue to develop their artificial Earth. Failure to contribute to this effort leaves a human vulnerable to modifications, where the individual's identity is transplanted into a robot, and will inevitably assist in the establishment of the new society.
